⚫ Overview
CarbonClear Technologies
CarbonClear Technologies is leading the transition to a carbon-negative future with an efficient, economically viable, and ultra-modular system for large-scale carbon dioxide removal. The company’s patented heat-free electrochemical cell technology uses 70% less energy than conventional methods, operates without liquids or solvents, produces no hazardous materials or waste, and offers the lowest capex and opex compared to its competitors.
CarbonClear’s innovative design, based on standardized modules called ClearStack, is optimized for mass manufacturing and large-scale carbon capture deployment, with the potential to reach gigaton-scale capacity. The company collaborates with key multinational partners in the carbon capture sector, such as Shell Oil.
CarbonClear’s technology is particularly effective in natural gas power plants and industries like aluminum or ceramics, where other technologies struggle to capture CO₂ emissions due to low concentrations. Regardless of the CO₂ concentration, CarbonClear’s solution can efficiently separate it using the same advanced technology, making it a versatile and scalable option for global decarbonization.
The Problem
Factories across multiple industries emit tens to hundreds of thousands of tons of CO₂ annually. Companies face increasing regulatory and economic pressure to reduce emissions, particularly due to rising carbon taxes, which have reached ~$130 per ton in some European countries. By 2026, the EU will impose a carbon tariff on the importation of carbon-intensive products such as steel, cement, and certain types of electricity.
Current carbon capture methods are hindered by significant technological and economic challenges, including:
- High CAPEX and energy-intensive processes that drive up OPEX.
- Reliance on chemical solvents that produce hazardous waste and reduce system longevity.
- Lack of modular and scalable solutions.
- Inability to capture CO₂ from industries with low or diluted emissions, such as aluminum and ceramics manufacturing.
⚫ Key Highlights
- Technology: Our cutting-edge CO₂ capture technology allows companies to significantly reduce punitive carbon taxes while operating at a fraction of the OPEX and CAPEX of current systems.
- Scalability: Featuring a modular design optimized for mass production, our solution enables large-scale carbon capture deployment on a gigaton scale. It is uniquely capable of capturing low-concentration emissions from industries like aluminum, ceramics, and natural gas power plants.
- Milestone Project: Secured a landmark agreement with Saudi Aramco and Petronas to advance carbon removal initiatives in Dubai, UAE, marking a major step in scaling our technology in the Middle East.
- Traction:
- Signed MVP agreements with two global aluminum manufacturers.
- Awarded a contract with C-Questra for the first on-shore European CO₂ storage project.
- Entered into an MOU to produce synthetic fuels from captured CO₂.
- Funding: Raised up to $15M in a Series A extension, with participation from existing investors Repsol and Extantia, as well as new investor Taranis, the CVC arm of Perenco. Additionally, we are in line to receive a potential grant from the Israel Innovation Authority.

⚫ Why IRAIC is Investing in CarbonClear Technologies?
There is no net-zero environmental future without carbon capture. Current carbon capture technologies are complex, expensive to install, difficult to scale, energy-intensive, and rely on solvents that can cause system degradation and produce hazardous waste. At IRAIC, we are investing in CarbonClear Technologies, which has developed a more efficient, solvent-free electrochemical alternative. This innovative technology offers significantly lower OPEX and CAPEX, is designed for gigaton-scale deployment, and can effectively capture carbon even in industries with diluted emissions where traditional technologies fail.
